One more mountain video

Here are the munchkins running laps on the deck Saturday morning - They ran back and forth at full tilt for probably 15-20 minutes.... :)

Running away to the mountains!!!

Last weekend we ran off to the mountains with some great friends of ours - There were four couples, one single, and four toddlers! :)

Kim, Dennis & Connor (turns 2 this month, super curly hair - CUTE)
Michelle, John & Gus (20 months, blond and too cute for his own good - and soon to be a big brother)
Jenn, Michael, & Abby (no intro needed for most folks who have been following this - Emily is obsessed with Abby)
Amy (the brave woman who came with while her hubby kept the new restaurant running at home)

The kids had a GREAT time! Emily and Abby started giggling and going crazy as soon as we got there on Friday night - and rarely stopped until Sunday when we all headed home. The house was awesome - 3 bedrooms, separate full basement with pull out couch and loft with two futons (where we slept) - so plenty of space! Emily had her own futon which is what she is used to sleeping on at home - don't think it will be too long until the munchkins get a room of their own -

Saturday was loaded with hikes and lots of silliness - the kids ran laps on the front porch before breakfast. We had brought Em's new easel so all the kids could color at the same time - which they did. It was so funny to watch all four of them to play together. After a yummy breakfast, the munchkins headed out for a hike with the dads while moms rested a bit and fixed lunch - then after a nap, we all headed back out for a second hike (which ended up more orienteering with climbing through the forest because the trail went further down the mountain than we wanted to go). That evening was dinner outside (the weather was GORGEOUS), with a fire in the outdoor fireplace, and more lap running on the porch. There was lots of book reading, snuggling, giggling and basic silliness....

We also brought along a new tent that the toddlers all played in - Lots of crazy giggles ensued when they saw it on the porch and asked us to bring it in.

It was amazing how well they all played together and they all listened to all of the grownups. We have awesome munchkins! All of the kids were asking for each other and super excited to see each other each morning.

There are a bunch of pictures up on Michael's flickr site :

And I'll be putting some of them up on our site because we are only going to leave the full batch up on Mike's site for a month or so.

In addition - Here is a bit of the hilarity that follows toddlers and tents....

Off to a raring start

2010 Has been off to a roaring start! We have gone to the circus, been hiking twice, and dad's been back out in his kayak! We've had two significant snowfalls (enough to build a snowman - that's a lot for us!) - and Em has had a great time learning to sled and throw snowballs. :)

Emily has moved to a new school - and so far she seems to be really enjoying it. She has a lot more kids in her class who are more talkative than at her previous school (she's now one of the younger ones instead of older ones) - and she has become MUCH more talkative at home. She speaks in short sentences and is a total chatty cathie!

Other fun points of note -
1 - She can take off and put on her shoes and socks (sometimes she chooses not to)
2 - She has definite preferences now (Backyardigans and Dora on TV, fruit (apples please) to eat, and favorite shoes already)
3 - We are working on learning to hop
4 - She's interested in the potty but so far very little potty training progress... :)

Our latest fun trip was a 7 to 8 mile hike (she hiked about 1 mile or so of it on her own) to a waterfall. She is definitely learning to enjoy climbing and we will probably be trying to take her to the gym soon :)

Ok off to tag consignment items.... Love to all!

Wonderful world of Birthday's

I'm sorry I haven't gotten more pictures posted from the birthdays - but they have been loads of fun!

At Aria's party - Emily got to play 'jumping on the bed' with Abby, Aria and another friend - and they all got to ride in 'Papa' (Jenn's dad)'s train. A grand time was had by all!

Then the first weekend in February was Abby's birthday on Superbowl Sunday - so we had a joint party. The girls all had a great time again, as well as playing with Gus Gus and Connor (other little ones of our friends). They ran wild through the house, sang and danced, ate lots of yummy food, and in general went wild. Emily and Abby were both up much later than usual but finally got down for the night.

We are finally done with birthdays and are getting into a much more normal groove. Emily has gotten back into her normal bedtime routine - and goes down for the night like a dream now. She has discovered Backyardigans (cartoon that comes on Nick Jr.) and now bedtime routine includes dinner, bath, brush teeth, read a bit, watch Backyardigans (we tell her it's only miraculously on at that time) then right off to bed, prayers, and out for the night....

More updates to come!!

2nd Birthday Checkup

We had Em's second birthday check up today - And she is growing like a weed! She is 36 inches tall and 30 lbs (that explains why it felt like such a workout carrying her around Tallulah Gorge)! :)

A few other fun updates:
  • She is talking up a storm these days (although sometimes you have to listen carefully to tell what she's talking about)
  • We have ditched the paci - except for bed time
  • Dad and Gram's taught her to show that she is 2 years old by holding up two fingers
  • She is learning to jump - which is funny to watch

Birthday season

January is definitely is the birthday month around here! :) The weekend of January 8th we headed out for our godson's birthday. They planned Jamie's birthday at a jumping place called Jungle Jumpers - and the kids had a BLAST! Emily and I had stopped by to visit with Jamie, Allison and baby Aaron earlier in the week so she was very ready to play with him at his party. A lot of folks asked if Em was about Jamie's age since she is as tall as the 3 year olds who were playing... :) She had a great time and even sat and ate snack and cake with all of the other kids rather than with mom and dad. She is growing up so fast! :)

She kept climbing up and going down the big slide over and over again... we finally had to drag her out and she crashed hard on the way home!

The next week was Em's birthday (Jamie is the 11th and Em is the 14th) - and we had Jamie (and his parents, little brother, gram, and uncle) up for dinner and the two of them would hardly leave the play room to eat - they had a GREAT time! Then for Em's party we headed up to Virginia so that we could do birthday with the Gramma's and Uncle Matt. We all converged on my mom's house in Craig County. Saturday we all got up late, visited, and then headed out to the Swinging Bridge to feed the fish and have some buffalo burgers. There was still a fair amount of snow so Emily was able to:
- Throw her first snow ball
- Make her first snow angel (with help)
- Go sledding (kinda - we used dad's jacket as the sled)

She LOVED running around in the snow (how often do we get to play in real snow with 40-50 degree temps?) - We were able to get her to stop long enough to go in for a bite of lunch and then she was ready to go explore more. After a couple of hours we packed up and headed to mom's for a nice long nap - adults (at least 3 of us) enjoyed watching Mamma Mia while Em slept and then we had a great little party - homemade chili, juiced up carrot cake, balloons, and party favors - Emily was SOOOO excited when she woke up and saw the decorated dining room! :) She got lots of wonderful goodies - Thank you to everyone :)

Our next round begins this weekend with our friend Aria's second birthday.... :)

Tallulah Gorge

For New Years Day we decided to brave the cold and kick the year off on the right foot with a hike - we are really hoping to get to do more hiking this year. :) We headed about an hour north of us to Tallulah Gorge - we did this hike last time when I was 5 months pregnant with Em -

She had a blast hiking around on the trail parts of the hike and only complained a little bit about having to ride for the stairs part. It's 531 steps from the stop to the bottom of the stairs, and another 568 back up to the other side.... it was a heck of a workout. Thankfully Jason carried her all the way on the stairs - I just had to carry her the last mile or so of the regular hike around the rim. She is MUCH heavier than she was back in April when we went to Italy or even back in September when we went camping at Rock Town. She has had several growth spurts in the past couple of months. :) We will find out in the early part of February just how much - that's her 2 year check up.
